Tree Removal and Trimming in Due West

Due West is a college town in the old sense. Erskine College sits at its center, with brick buildings and tree-shaded lawns, and from the edge of town the farmland stretches out in every direction. The trees follow that same pattern: big old hardwoods in town and around campus, and pines and field-edge oaks out in the open country.

Greenwood Tree Pros takes down and trims trees in Due West and the rural roads around it. Most removals here come from storms, old age or pine beetles, and most trimming comes from trees that have simply outgrown the space next to a house.

Storm damage and the pines it leaves behind

Open farmland gives wind room to build, and a summer thunderstorm crossing those fields hits the first line of trees hard. When the red clay is soaked after a week of rain, tall loblolly pines can go over whole instead of breaking. Others snap partway up and leave a jagged top hung in the next tree, which is a dangerous thing to leave for long.

Ice storms add another layer. A heavy glaze bends pine limbs until they break and splits brittle oaks at their forks. And in a dry year, stressed pines draw southern pine beetle; a stand that looks fine in spring can be brown by late summer. Dead pines get brittle quickly, so we recommend dealing with them before the next storm does it for you.

Homes and land around Due West

Near campus and through the middle of town, the houses are older and the yards hold large water oaks, willow oaks and pecans. Those trees give the town its look, but water oaks in particular reach an age where decay sets in, and a hollow trunk next to a bedroom is not something to wait on. In tight spots a removal means dropping the tree a section at a time instead of in one piece.

Outside town, properties are bigger and the jobs are different: pines too close to a house or barn, trees leaning over a fence or a farm road, and storm-thrown trees that need cutting up and hauling off. Many of the same jobs keep us busy in the county seat over in Abbeville, a short drive south.

How we schedule visits out here

Due West is a bit of a drive from Greenwood, so we plan trips to cover several properties in Abbeville County at once. If a tree is on a house, blocking the only way in or out, or hanging over a power line, tell us in your message and it moves ahead of routine work. A dead tree at the back of a field can usually wait for dry ground.

Every job still starts with someone on site. We walk the property, look at the lean, the trunk and the crown, and check for wells, septic lines and outbuildings in the fall path. Every tree job is priced after someone has walked the yard and looked up into the tree, with the price in writing before a saw starts. Once you say yes, we set a work day, tell you how the tree will come down and where the truck will park, and let you know what the yard will look like when we pull out. The wood and brush leave with us unless you would rather keep some for the fireplace.

The form asks for your name and phone number, with the address optional. In the message box, tell us what kind of tree it is if you know, roughly how tall, what is near it, and whether it is dead, leaning or already damaged. A short note like 'three dead pines along the fence by the road' gives us what we need. We will call back to set a time to come out, and the quote will not cost you anything.
