Most tree calls around Greenwood come down to five kinds of work. A water oak dropping dead limbs over the driveway, a loblolly pine that leans a little harder after every soaking rain, a stump left over from a removal two summers ago, broken tops scattered across the yard after a thunderstorm, or a wooded lot that has to be opened up before a house or pasture can go in.

Five kinds of tree work

Tree removal is the whole tree coming down, usually in pieces when a roof, fence or power line is close by. When there is no room to drop a trunk, it gets rigged down limb by limb or lifted out with a crane.

Tree trimming takes deadwood out of the crown, lifts limbs off the roof and driveway, and thins heavy ends that tend to break in wind or ice. It is pruning with clean cuts in the right place, not topping a tree back to stubs.

Stump grinding chews the stump down below the grass line and turns it into chips you can keep for mulch or have hauled off.

Storm damage work is the after-the-storm call: a tree on the house or the car, a split trunk hung up in another tree, limbs tangled in the service drop. The weight comes off safely first; cleanup comes second.

Land clearing covers house lots, fence lines, overgrown back acreage and underbrush.

Which one fits your yard

A healthy tree that is only in the way usually needs trimming, not removal. Fungus at the base, a cavity you can put a hand into, or a crown that thinned out over one summer points the other way. Around Greenwood about 47 inches of rain a year keeps trees growing fast, so a limb that cleared the gutter a few years ago may be resting on the shingles now.

If you are not sure, describe what you see and we will tell you plainly what the tree needs, even when the answer is to leave it alone. Every tree job is priced after someone has walked the yard and looked up into the tree, with the price in writing before a saw starts. We bring that same approach to the smaller towns around the county.

Tell us about the tree through the short form here: your name, a phone number, the address if you want us to find the yard, and a few lines about what is going on. Mention anything that has changed lately, like a new lean or cracked soil at the base. We call back to set up a time to look at it.
