Weather That Brings Trees Down
Summers here are long, hot and humid, and the area averages something like 47 inches of rain a year. A lot of that comes in heavy bursts from thunderstorms and the remains of tropical systems. The red clay under Bradley holds that water instead of draining it, and a big tree standing in saturated clay can go over whole, roots and all, when the wind picks up. Winter brings its own risk in the years when freezing rain glazes limbs and snaps pine tops.
After a storm, the order of work is safety first: anything on a roof or across a drive, then hanging limbs that could drop, then the rest of the cleanup. Please stay well clear of any tree tangled in a power line and let the utility know first; we can work once the line is safe.
Trees and Lots Around Bradley
The usual mix is loblolly pine, water oak, willow oak, sweetgum and tulip poplar, with pecans near some of the older houses. Water oaks are behind a lot of removal requests. They are short-lived and prone to internal decay, so a big one near a farmhouse can look healthy from the yard while it rots at the core. Pines that have been through drought or storm stress may draw southern pine beetle, which shows up as needles fading to rust in patches.
Lots in Bradley are generous, which helps. With open ground, a tree can sometimes be felled in one piece where it would have to come down in sections in town. When it stands near a house, a barn or power lines, we take it apart limb by limb and lower the pieces.
Removal, Stumps and Cleanup
A removal here usually covers felling or sectioning the tree, cutting the trunk into rounds, chipping or hauling the brush, and raking up. If you heat with wood, we can leave the rounds stacked where you want them. Most people also ask us about what we do with the stumps afterward, since a stump left in a pasture or yard is a mower hazard for years. Grinding takes it below the surface, and the chips can be raked into the hole or spread as mulch around beds and shrubs.
Every job starts with a walk-through. Every tree job is priced after someone has walked the yard and looked up into the tree, with the price in writing before a saw starts. That way you know what is included, from cleanup to grinding, before we unload a thing.
